I worked for the Department for Transport for 32 years, joining as a basic Driving Examiner. (I had previously run my own driving school).

I conducted driving tests for 5/6 years, before being promoted, firstly to Senior Driving Examiner, then to Supervising Examiner, where I was in operational control of all the driving test, and heavy goods centres in Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire, and parts of Nottinghamshire.

3 years later I was promoted again to Assistant Chief Driving Examiner, a post which led to me to working at Dept for Transport headquarters in London, where I remained until a decision was taken by the then Government to move any division that didn't need to be in London ‑ out.

I was on the relocation committee, which choose Nottingham as the new headquarters building.
Also at this time, I was involved in the process of the division becoming the Driving Standards Agency, another move by the Government at the time.

Altogether, I worked a total of 13 years at D f T and the DSA before taking early retirement.

Since this time, I have worked on a self employed basis carrying out instructor training, (parts 2 and 3) check test training, fleet training, etc., for several organisations, including the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, and training drivers at the basic level for the Forces (RAF/ARMY).
